Although Dutch is used in all admistrations and by the majority of the population, no official language has really been decreed in the Netherlands.
It is spoken by 30 million speakers throughout the world, for example in its Overseas Territories (located in the West Indies), parts of Belgium and Suriname.
Of these 30 million Dutch-speakers, 7 million speak Afrikaans (a derivative of Dutch) and are located mainly in South Africa and Namibia.
A very small Dutch speaking community (about 40,000 people) is also present in Indonesia (which is a former Dutch colony).
The Dutch use the Latin alphabet.
