NEM is a cryptomonnaie, but its developers use blockchain technology and the network of nodes that authenticates the transactions of this electronic money for other applications: the exchange of encrypted messages and the reservation of Internet domain names.

There is 8,999,999,999 XEM (an XEM is the unit of this currency), originally created. There is therefore no new "pieces" created in the course of time, unlike the bitcoin. We are not talking about mining with this cryptomony but "harvesting". The computers that serve as a node disseminate to the network the information that such a transaction exists and collect in exchange for this work the transaction costs.
It is for this reason that it is possible to use its computer as a node even without immense computing power (we speak of a minimum configuration of 2 GB of RAM and 1 GHz of processor clock). On the other hand, there must be at least 10,000 XEM on his account in order to serve as a node.
