Zcash is a decentralized and open-source cryptomyel developed by Zerocoin Electric Coin Company (ZECC) which offers confidentiality and the choice of transparency level of transactions. Zcash payments are published on a public blockchain, but the sender, recipient and transaction amount remain confidential.
Like the Bitcoin, Zcash was created with a fixed total quantity of 21 million units.
The project started in 2014, when several teams of cryptographic researchers from American and Israeli universities wanted to improve the Zerocoin protocol, which was itself derived from the Bitcoin protocol. The first block was mined on 28 October 2016.
